Big Scoob grew up in Kansas City, MO, a friend and neighbor of future local star Tech N9ne, spending his formative years and early adulthood involved with gang activity and drug dealing. In the late 90s, he and several childhood friends, rappers Bakarii, Short Nitty, and Txx Will formed a rap group, 57th Street Rogue Dog Villians, and released several albums with local labels such as Midwestside Records and their own label, Hogstyle Records, as a way of leaving the street life behind. The group, along with frequent collaborator Tech N9ne, scored regional hits with songs like "It's On Now," "Let's Get Fucked Up," and Tech N9ne's "Mitch Bade." The RDVs would ultimately release 5 albums from 1998-2007 before largely separating to pursue separate interests, with Tech N9ne often a frequent guest on the records.

In the early 2000s, Tech N9ne was building a rapidly growing solo career, releasing major regional hits with Midwestside label owner and local producer Don Juan, who also produced material for the RDVs. Due to financial disputes, Tech would fall out with Don Juan, leading to a fierce feud that persisted for a number of years and at various times also involved the members of the Rogue Dog Villians. In 2002, Midwestside released a bootleg album of unreleased Tech N9ne tracks called Celsius, a pointed insult to Tech N9ne not only because of his burgeoning independent career and competing official release, his album Absolute Power, and the music being released against Tech N9ne's will, but also because of the use of a blue color motif on the album artwork, designed to make Tech lose credibility with his Blood gang affiliations. The Rogue Dog Villians made appearances on this album, and the escalating Midwestside feud led to several diss tracks being exchanged between Tech N9ne and his former Midwestside friends. Tech N9ne devoted an entire verse to Scoob himself on an underground song called "Kansas City King," making the beef very public as the song was featured on a Murder Dog magazine compilation album. During this time, the actual Rogue Dog Villians released little music, as they were dealing with the fallout of one of their members, Short Nitty, being arrested for statutory rape, as well as with the group being somewhat divided by the beef with Tech N9ne.

By 2007, the beef had been resolved, as the RDVs began recording with Tech again, and released their final album to date, New World Hustle: Street Edition. Scoob himself was picking up steam as a solo artist, having made several well-received guest appearances on Tech N9ne's first Collabos album, 2007's Misery Loves Kompany. In 2009, Scoob officially signed a contract with Tech N9ne's Strange Music label and released his solo debut album, Monsterifik, on September 15, 2009. The album was promoted by the lead single "Salue," which featured Tech N9ne and received a video treatment. The song remains one of Scoob's most recognized and celebrated songs, which introduced Strange Music's fanbase to Scoob's raw and straightforward rhyme style. However, the album's sales, as well as those of his sophomore follow-up, 2011's Damn Fool, disappointed Scoob and led to him taking a lengthy hiatus from recording for the label. He released an EP, No Filter, in late 2011 and the first two of a planned series of three mixtapes in summer 2012 before largely disappearing for several years, making relatively few appearances on his labelmates' music and virtually vanishing even from social media.

During this time period, Scoob says he had returned to the streets to some degree, as his music career was not making ends meet and he wondered if he had a place in the music business. But after a few well-received guest appearances on various labelmates' records and what Scoob felt was divine intervention, Scoob returned to the scene in 2016 with his third album, H.O.G. Scoob felt that H.O.G. was a rebirth of sorts, as he felt his previous releases had been mired by the pressure he felt to make music that would appeal to Strange Music's core fanbase rather than making music that was true to himself. Scoob now has various projects in the pipeline, including a long-rumored album of collaborations tentatively titled Big Scoob Nem and the eventual release of the final installment of his 2012 Dope Talk mixtape series.
