Huey was born and raised in the St. Louis area, originally living in Kinloch before moving to the Walnut Park neighborhood at age 5. As a teenager, his family returned to St. Louis County, and Huey witnessed drug dealing and violence in his formative years. At 15, he began making beats and recording his own rap songs, with "Oh" and "Pop, Lock & Drop It" becoming favorites with local DJs. These songs gained the attention of producer TJ Chapman, who set up a meeting for Huey with Memphitz, the vice president of A&R at Jive Records, who signed Huey to a deal.

His major label debut was titled Notebook Paper and was released when Huey was 18. "Pop, Lock & Drop It" was chosen as the lead single, and it became a Top 10 hit on the Billboard charts. Huey's album also gained notoriety for including disses aimed at fellow St. Louisan Nelly, who had declined to work with Huey on Notebook Paper. The album's second single was "When I Hustle," featuring Lloyd, but the single failed to gain any traction.

After many delays, he finally released his sophomore album Redemption in 2010, which failed to produce any charting singles or crack the Billboard 200. In 2013, Huey signed to Waka Flocka Flame's label 1017 Records, where he is working on his third studio album. He has released a pair of mixtapes since the release of Redemption.

On June 25, 2020, Huey was shot and killed in St. Louis.
