Skatterman, perhaps best known as one half of the duo Skatterman & Snug Brim, began rapping as a teenager, joining up with the group Southside Rollers in 1999 before meeting his long-time rhyme partner Snug Brim in high school. Originally known as Yung Gunz, they dropped this moniker for the more straight-forward, if more unwieldy, title of Skatterman & Snug Brim, in order to avoid confusion with the similarly named Young Gunz, who were at the time signed to Jay-Z's label. Their 2001 debut album, Worth a Million, caught the attention of Tech N9ne, who signed them to his then-fledgling Strange Music imprint. Skatterman & Snug Brim would be the first artists on the label besides Tech N9ne to release an album, with Urban Legendz dropping in 2004.

Financial struggles and legal strife would set Strange Music back over the next few years, and the label finally bounced back in 2006, clearing the way for Skatterman & Snug Brim's second album with the label, Word on tha Streets, to drop in 2008. This would be their final release with the label, as they parted ways in 2009 due to issues with Strange's marketing and promotion of their music. For a time after this, Skatterman was a vocal critic of the label, accusing them of crooked business practices, but eventually their differences were settled and he would return to collaborate with some of the label's artists such as Kutt Calhoun and Big Scoob.

After leaving Strange Music, Skatterman & Snug Brim started their own label, Bigg Shot Music, and intended to release their fourth album, Perseverance. Snug Brim would end up taking a hiatus to return to school, however, and Skatterman went solo. He has since released several solo mixtapes and has even discussed reuniting with former label boss Tech N9ne for a collaborative EP.

In February 2019 Skatterman signed with Sioux City, Iowa record label 4Worn Nation.
